News Corporation (ASX:NWS, NASDAQ:NWSA) has posted a 47 per cent jump in its third quarter net profit, boosted by one-off gains and growth from its cable networks and movie studio business.

The media company’s quarterly profit came in at $US937 million in the same period earnings before interest and tax grew 23 per cent and revenue rose 2 per cent.

Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch believes News Corp is better situated than ever to capitalise on demand for the company’s content.

News Corporation has also doubled its share buyback and confirmed its on track to meet its full year guidance.

Separately, News Corp president and chief operating officer Chase Carey has hit back at claims from a UK parliamentary committee that Mr Murdoch is unfit to run the company.

Mr Carey says the findings were unjustified in many people's opinion, including his own, and a purely partisan finding.

In the first half of the 2012 financial year News Corp recorded a net profit of $1.9 billion.
