WELLINGTON, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Job advertisements in New Zealand rose 1 percent in August to a record high, suggesting wages would start to rise, a survey by ANZ Bank showed on Wednesday.

Jobs in the service sector led gains, as a tourism boom pushed up the need for services. On an annual basis job ads rose 10.9 percent.

Despite a skilled labour shortage and unemployment dropping to eight-year lows, wage growth has been sluggish, but economists said the strong demand for labour should change that soon.

"We continue to expect a modest pick-up in wage growth," said Sharon Zollner, ANZ economist, in a research note accompanying the release.
