@JID told me a number of times to avoid the Philippines and as usual, I would have been better off if I'd listened.
I thought that OGC's exemplary environmental record would count in its favour, but they need to address 'social issues'. I wonder if this is code for 'this mine is very profitable and so should be returning more to the local community'. If so, I think OGC management should be able to come to a negotiated settlement with the locals. Certainly I think the tone of their press release was right. Talking about working cooperatively with DENR and no tone of outrage at the shabby way they've been treated.
Seems like a buying opportunity may present itself here. But who knows exactly when?
