By this stage, GUN should have some submissions from the Public Environmental Review that finished on 29th August, and would have at least begun preparing its response. Has anyone heard whether any groups lodged strong objections to the project?
I found this story on the ABC News website:
Call for more research into mineral sand project
Pastoralists and community members in the Shark Bay area have expressed concern about water supplies in relation to Gunson Resources' proposed project.
Gunson wants to construct and operate the Coburn mineral sand project, 84 kilometres south-east of Denham.
The Shark Bay Land Conservation District Committee spokesman, Harold Crawford, says not enough research has been done into the possible impact of the removal of large quantities of water from the Birdrong Aquifer.
Mr Crawford says Hamelin Pool Station noticed a drop in pressure in the bores even in a short period of Gunson's test pumping.
"In the PER report that has been put out with regards to the Gunson development, they were already admitting that their test pumping - 24 hour test pumping operations - there was already suggestions that level reductions were evident in a pump operation," he said.
