May 23 (Reuters) - A 48 year-old man was shot dead by police on Friday in New Caledonia, a day after President Emmanuel Macron's visit to the riot-hit French-ruled Pacific island, public broadcaster La 1ere reported, citing the local public prosecution office.
It was the seventh reported death since the start of the unrest last week.
Police were attacked by a group of around 15 people before the shot was fired, the official told La 1ere. The local prosecution office did not immediately reply to a Reuters request for comment.
