Singapore Telecommunications Limited’s (ASX:SGT) Australian arm Optus is seeking proof that Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS) is the exclusive licensee for distributing AFL and NRL matches on mobile phones and the internet.

Optus has lodged a statement with the Federal Court ahead of a hearing over its new product TV Now, which allows customers to record free-to-air television and replay it on mobiles and computers.

The AFL and NRL issued legal warnings informing Optus of copyright infringement.

Recently the AFL signed a $150 million internet rights deal with Telstra, but Telstra says they would reconsider the deal if Optus customers were allowed to record the games for free.

In the 2010 financial year, SingTel recorded a net profit of $2.9 billion.
