Singapore Telecommunications Limited’s (ASX:SGT) Australian arm Optus has inked a $19.5 million contract with the Australian Department of Defence.

The latest agreement extends the telco’s relationship with the department in delivering managed professional satellite services.

Optus will continue to deliver services for an extra four years until mid-2018 following the launch of the Optus C1 satellite in 2003.

Optus advises the C1 satellite was jointly funded by the company and the Australian Department of Defence.

At the time the satellite was largest hybrid communications and military satellite launched and is controlled from Optus’ Sydney-based satellite earth station.

Singtel reported a net profit of $1.6 billion in the six months to the end of September 2013.
