Singapore Telecommunications Limited’s (ASX:SGT) Australia arm Optus has partnered with Vodaphone.
Optus and Vodafone have struck an infrastructure sharing deal which will save Optus more than $100 million in capital expenses.
The rival telcos will work together to construct 500 new mobile base stations in the next four years and share 1,300 existing sites to expand their network.
The expanded joint venture network agreement is still subject to approval from Australia’s competition regulator.
SingTel posted a net profit of $1.4 billion in the first half of the 2012 financial year.
