I would rather choose the most prospective areas for re investment myself rather than delegate that decision to my paid managers.
The best companies are those that don't need lots of capital re-invested, rather than those on the CAPEX/depreciation treadmill.
Paying a dividend enforces capital discipline on the managers of my company and prevents them making stupid decisions like two side by side LNG export terminal as part of their empire-building.
