Early closure of the plant due to commercial reasons indicates the plant is less valuable that previously thought (due to lower revenue and earnings generated by the asset). I suspect impact of this on Origin has been somewhat masked by the ripper of a period the integrated gas business had.
I agree with the other posters that Origin isn't a chairty. If the asset isn't going to be profitable to operate then Origin is right to bring forward the decommissioning. If it us essential to maintain grid stability then the government should step in with subsidies or purchase it and run it at a loss.
Alternatively, if origin is just ditching this plant in an attempt to greenwash their business then they should really consider a sale to a third party.
