A parliamentary enquiry into Orica Limited’s (ASX:ORI) toxic chemical leak at its Kooragang Island ammonia plant in Newcastle will be held today.
The seven-hour hearing is expected to see NSW premier Barry O’Farrell and environment minister Robyn Parker explain their handling of the leak.
It was supposed to be held on Friday, but the chairman, Shooters and Fishers party MP Robert Borsak, resigned at the last minute due to a conflict of interest.
He’ll be replaced by his upper house colleague Robert Brown.
The explosives and mining services supplier says the closure of its Kooragang Island facility is costing $4 million in earnings each week.
Orica posted a profit of $663.4 million for the six months to September.
