News: PharmAust progressing human trials of cancer treatment

PharmAust Limited (ASX:PAA) is fast tracking development of therapeutic cancer products with clinical studies of its PPL-1 treatment currently underway.

The treatment has already demonstrated apparent broad anti-cancer activity that works with current cancer treatments.

Notably, a key cancer marker was suppressed in all patients tested at the lowest dose of PPL-1 with no material adverse effects reported.

Recruitment is currently underway for the next cohort.

The next stage is likely to examine PPL-1 in patients on chemotherapy.

PharmAust has also made strides in the use of PPL-1 in canine cancers with the company recently moving to the next stage of clinical evaluations.

This will make use of the “synergy” discovery, which showed that PPL-1 has the potential to significantly enhance the anti-cancer activity of conventional chemotherapeutics without simultaneously enhancing the associated side-effect profile.

In these evaluations dogs will be treated with a combination of “standard of care” chemotherapy and PPL-1.

Two dogs have so far received this combination therapy and are being monitored for the effects of the treatment on regression of their cancers.

PharmAust has a Research Option Agreement with a major pharmaceutical company for veterinary applications of PPL-1. It will also seek a partner for the human applications of PPL-1

Earlier this week, the company received a $329,351 tax rebate under the Federal Government’s Research and Development Tax Incentive Scheme.
