If Australian Super have loaned their shares to short sellers then their voting power is reduced by the number of shares they have loaned out and the only way they could regain their vote would require they call back those shares.
If they are intent on increasing their posiion lending out shares to short sellers keeps the price down and lets them buy more stock on the cheap. It leads to the curious situation where they lend out their shares to shorts and buy them a second or third time from the shorts while keeping a lid on the price! A takeover offer for PLS from a third party requiring a vote of shareholders would put the cat amongst the pigeons. Just dreaming!!!!
