I’ve heard that there is a push to make a hybrid battery that will be sodium-lithium ion. The Sodium component will make the lithium more stable and able to operate in larger temperature ranges, so may open up the battery market to cold climates. This hybrid will also bring the cost down, so eventually you may have the choice of a super fast lithium ion car, or a less powerful yet cheaper sodium-lithium hybrid.
CATL are at the forefront of this technology and will be releasing new batteries this year.
