News Ltd, News Corporation’s (ASX:NWS) holding company is under review by the Prime Minister.
Julia Gillard has left the way open for a wide-scale inquiry into ownership and regulation in response to the News of the World scandal.
The Australian Financial Review reports that this could mean trouble for News’s interest in pay television operator Foxtel and Foxtel’s bid for Austar United Communications Ltd (ASX:AUN).
The current review under way does not currently include print media, but this may also now form part of the inquiry.
News Corp booked a net profit of just under $1.5 billion in the first half of its 2011 financial year.
