It is around 1 cent per point, so for every 5000 points you get $50 towards any Qantas flight credit.
So, basically, Qantas told a Vietnam Vet, "Sorry buddy, you can't sit in business class with your wife, even though you both paid for a business class trip from Adelaide to New Zealand return. However, here is $50, a "sorry" letter, and can you please stick your ass out so we can kick you back into cattle class for the last leg of your journey? Thanks mate and welcome back to Australia".
