Alex has never been a broker. He established Thorney out of a vacant company in the Pratt family Corp structure that had a bit of cash. He was given a license by the pratts (while dating heloise) to invest it in equities and he absolutely killed it in the early years, sometimes making over 100% per annum. He built the Thorney we know today out of that opportunity. And yes before that he worked essentially as an analyst directs under/for Robert Holmes accourt. Worked with him on some crazy deals and saw everything unravel for Robert as well due to leverage. all of this is available in the “masters of the market” book written a while back in case you want to fact check.
