The EBA had been expired for 3 years. A 5% pay rise from a 3 year stagnated wage is considerably less than CPI. During covid the average Rex executive pay went up 20%. If you read the fine print of the EBA, it benefits those who leave, to receive their backpay sooner, rather than 3 years after signing.
The current climate for pilot jobs worldwide is that of strong demand. It started before COVID but was exacerbated by it. Airlines in the states are paying 50k USD just for sign on bonuses, more than a Rex pilot gets in a year.
Virgin, Qantas, Jetstar, Atlas etc are not poaching rex pilots. They're just leaving a shitty workplace.
