- On 1 March entered into separate non-discretionary irrevocable instructions to repurchase of shares of up to £160 million
- "Rio Tinto has today increased aggregate maximum consideration under these instructions to $300 million for period from 1 March 2017 to 28 July 2017"
- Aggregate maximum consideration payable by company in respect of repurchase of shares under programme up to 31 December 2017 is $500 million
