The SBM Q1/FY20 quarterly says
"The Simberi mining lease (ML136) has been extended to December 2028"
This should not be an issue to them. Under Allied Gold - ALD (the previous owner of Simberi) the recoveries for th sulphides were poor and the decision revolved around:
- are the sulphides worth processing
- if so whether to produce a concentrate or process on site. if they were to be processed on site then they may need autoclaves and it may be difficult to get environmental approval (they produce SO2). Alternative was to "fine grind" which put up processing costs (i.e AISC). ALD also considered BIOX but rejected it.
As I recall the capex for processing the sulphides was ~$250k
The mineralogy is quite complex.
