(Updates with more details on resignation, context on Star Entertainment regulatory woes)

April 18 (Reuters) - Australia's Star Entertainment Group (SGR) said on Thursday that Jessica Mellor, CEO of its Star Gold Coast casino in Queensland, will step down from her role on May 24.

Mellor, Star Gold Coast's youngest and first female chief, joined in October 2023. She leaves at a time when the casino operator's top brass has exited and as it also faces a second inquiry into its Sydney operations.

Star Entertainment did not specify a reason for Mellor's exit.

Last month, Star Entertainment CEO Robbie Cooke and finance officer Christina Katsibouba announced their resignations.

The Australian casino operator is facing a second inquiry into its Sydney casino operations as concerns were raised over the company's progress on remedial measures after the regulator-appointed management was extended for the second time in December last year.

Ian Brown, general manager, gaming, at Star Gold Coast, will take on the CEO role as the casino operator hunts for a new chief, the company said.

Star Gold Coast contributed to about a third of the group's operating earnings in fiscal year 2023.
