Singapore Telecommunications Limited (ASX:SGT) has cut 250 jobs from its Australian business Optus, according to The Australian.

The paper reports that Australia’s second largest telco has slashed senior and middle management positions in an effort to "rationalise the management structure".

The largest job losses will reportedly be from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia and are schooled to take effect from August 12.

The move comes just one week after Telstra Corporation Ltd (ASX:TLS) said it would outsource 300 jobs to India.

In the 2010 financial year SingTel recorded a net profit of $2.9 billion.
