Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (ASX:SGT) says its wholly owned subsidiary Optus has boosted its pre-tax profit for the first half of the current financial year to $468 million, from $378 million recorded the same time last year.
The dual listed telecommunications company gained $4.48 billion in revenue from Optus in the period, which represents a rise of 3.7 per cent.
Optus' net profit was $345 million, up 19 per cent from $291 million last year.
Sigtel says Optus' result was driven by strong mobile growth and prudent cost management.
Singapore Telecommunications posted a profit of over $3 billion in the year to 31 March 2010.
