I'm not intimately familiar with coal production costs and prices. Can anyone here do a quick calc on how the finances for this mine will work out for SMR? I imagine that at today's coal price it will at least break even (hopefully do better), but that with coal prices very likely to bounce back over the next couple of years SMR will likely do very nicely. Why will coal prices bounce back? Well many commentators don't think they will, the IEA for example is neutral http://www.iea.org/Textbase/npsum/MTCMR2015SUM.pdf, but SteelFirst is more positive https://www.steelfirst.com/Article/3437427/Australia-positive-about-met-coal-outlook-from-2016.html, and a recent assessment is pretty positive http://www.smh.com.au/business/new-...rices-to-rebound-in-2016-20151210-glkc1m.html. Now the last two items may well have some self interest in them so should be treated cautiously, but ... that last item appeared in the SMH, and the SMH is not the sort of publaction in which one would ever expect anything positive to be said about coal, so maybe there really is the prospect of recovering prices next year. Interesting.
