No, not "this sort of thing". Yes, unexpected events can occur without notice, and bids and offers in the market take their chances with those. But a takeover is supposed to happen in an orderly manner. There are all sorts of rules to achieve that. This takeover was deliberately sprung as a surprise. For the good of the whole market, it should not be allowed to succeed.
