"foreign policy that saw it grow close to China" - from the very first paragraph it singles out one particular country, in this case a country called China. There are almost 200 countries in the world, did Solomon Islands only grow close to China and not others? What is the definition of grow close? If Solomon Islands grew closer to other countries, why this was not mentioned? It is obvious the writer has an agenda for the get go."The election is being closely watched by China, the U.S. and neighbouring Australia because of the potential impact on regional security" - it is not being watched closely by other countries? Here after singling out a single country, it then list the country again comparing with Australia and ally US, by contrasting that first country with Australia and mentioning an ally of Australia, by definition that country must be an adversary. Framing again. This is called framing. It sets you up from the headline from get go based on the writer's bias mixed with factual reporting to paint a narrative. And repeated use of framing will brainwash the reader.
My opinion is Solomon Islands is not growing closer with any country, it is acting in its self interest, like all nations does and Australia should welcome and partner with all countries that meet Solomon Islands' interest in a collaborative manner instead of viewing the world as a zero-sum game.
