Thelynx Perhaps I did not express my question well but I am not at this stage concerned about which method is cleaner than the other.. If you have followed all the technical articles on both systems you will know CSG simply is a means of extracting latent gas from coal beds well beneath the surface.fracturing if necessary to improve the yeild. UGC on the other hand involves combustion of the coal underground and extracting the resultant gas..all the time controlling the burn with air/steam or oxygen.. My understanding is that there is 20 times as much energy available from UGC so if one assumes say even 20% of the energy is removed by natural gas seepage to the surface then 80% should still remain for combustion and subsequent removal..Cleanliness aside it is the energy component that i am interested in!! and of course the extra dollrs!!
