Hungary could have cheapest power in EU via nuclear energy, says Orbán
Hungary’s electricity prices could be the lowest in the European Union within a period of 4 or 5 years provided that the country increases its nuclear capacity, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in Mumbai on Friday.
Speaking at a Hungary-India business forum, Orban noted that the government was currently reducing the retail price of electricity and wants to cut prices for industrial consumers in the future.
Orban said that nuclear energy was indispensable for price cuts. He noted that nuclear power now covered some 40 percent of Hungary’s consumption, but that ratio could reach 60-70 percent in the next decade through increasing the country’s nuclear capacity.
Orban said that the government was about to sign an agreement concerning the planned expansion.
