Australian Govt has now taken the position that gas is a necessary source of energy during the transition to renewables , which in reality means Australia will need gas for another thirty years at least.
FIRB never got to rule on the Brookfield takeover of Origin as it was stopped in its tracks by major shareholders voting against it. Origin is now almost $2 more than the Brookfield offer. I think FIRB would have not approved , and this case will probably go the same way , but if there is an offer and that’s a big if , at least it will help the market to focus on the real value.
