SYDNEY, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Australia said on Tuesday it would carefully consider whether ANZ's (ANZ) A$4.9 billion ($3.20 billion) proposed buyout of Suncorp's (SUN) banking arm is in the national interest, after the country's competition tribunal approved the deal.
"I will carefully and methodically consider whether the proposed acquisition is in the national interest ... and then announce a decision in due course," Treasurer Jim Chalmers said in a statement.
