In Victoria you get 10000 to march in the street on almost any issue but that sort of thing is more like mob rule and brow beating rather than a ground swell of public opinion I believe in democracy and the common sense of the Australian people, its a pity a more politician didn't have this same belief we should have more referendums so the majority can decide the issues,with political parties we have to vote for the least worst party even though that party brings in changes we are opposed to and that is why there is so much distrust of politicians and the political system.
I like the way the senate was picked by the Greeks all the names were put into a ballot and the number of senators required drawn out and they served a term they did this to stop party politics.
