Indeed, talking the economy down in Australia is de rigeur, but I wonder how much of it is really politically driven. Perhaps it's worth asking the question, if you were an economist in Europe or US and asked if you could wave a magic wand and could now also have 5% unemployment, go into a budget surplus and have amongst the largest per capita mineral wealth in the world with centuries of gas, coal and uranium in reserves; should you feel sorry for youself? I suspect they might answer "No way, stop whingeing and stop being a hypochondriac!" Put politicians and economists on "ignore". What happens within any short term economic cycle really doesn't matter when you are investing in a mine with a 20 year life!
