Not necessarily, Provided it WAS clear air turbulence they are cleared by the general recommendation to stay seated with your seat belt on. OTOH if it was like the QANTAS flight which was caused by a buggy flight control system then more money will be dished out. A Kiwi steward on the Q flight was permanently injured iirc.
How does it work with Star Alliance? Do you book a SA ticket with their flight code but you fly on a differently painted plane?
