"DCEC has raided the homes and properties of former cabinet Ministers Lefoko Moagi and Kefentse Mzwinila as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected possession of unexplained wealth, Sunday Standard has learnt. It is understood that a search was first conducted at Moagi's residence in Ramotswa, followed by another at Mzwinila's home in Ruretse earlier this week. While it remains unclear what DCED investigators discovered during the raids, sources claim the anti-corruption agency had gathered strong evidence prior to executing the searches. It is further understood that Mzwinila spent a day in prison, while Moagi did not.

The Directorate is relying on financial intelligence reports and lifestyle audits that suggest the two former ministers may be living far beyond their lawful means, said a senior government source familiar with the operation. Under s34, the burden of proof lies with the individual to satisfactorily explain how they acquired such wealth. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the asset to the state, alongside possible criminal charges".

There is a document circulating there implicating Moagi in various kickback schemes, one involving BPC and a large coal fired power station awarded to an Indian group. He is also implicated in ownership schemes with a large chain of supermarkets in Botswana. The document suggests that someone (or perhaps many) have it in for Moagi - but i reckon we are early stages of this story playing itself out. But if 10 per cent of what the 6 page document says is true, then he has been a very naughty boy. Maybe he can buy his way out of any problem ahead. Who knows, as I suspect they are all as bad and greedy as each other.
