It is interesting that everyone is looking at what Amazon sold. To me the really important news is the launch of Alexa. Think.... what if the warehouse and web site is to enable the launch of Alexa?
Look at the Amazon dash buttons in the states, press the button and you automatically order a specific product via Alexa and it just arrives at your door, (free delivery if with Prime).
This should have Wow and Coles worried, customers have 3 perceptions that drive their retail decision making, perception of value, perception of convenience, perception of service. If Amazon can grab convenience and service via Alexa and Prime......they can compete with higher prices.
At the same time today WOW launched Marrickville new format, this format requires 278 staff to run.....compare that with an ALDI at around 10 staff.
Where is WOW positioning itself? Value or up market? Still some questions to be answered.
