TERROR SUSPECTS HELD

Three terror suspects have been arrested and explosive devices recovered near Gatwick airport, police have said.

The three Europeans were detained in Langley Green near Crawley, Sussex, after two explosive devices were found.


They are being held at an undisclosed police station in Sussex.

"Three Europeans, not from this country, are currently in custody and are being held under the Terrorism Act," a Sussex Police spokesman said.

The explosives were found in a flat in a shopping centre following a police search carried out in connection with a criminal matter.

The Army's bomb disposal unit were called in and some 25 homes evacuated around the precinct on Tuesday afternoon.

Police would not release any more details.

Langley Green is less than 5km from Gatwick Airport.

Heathrow and Gatwick airports were at the centre of security alerts last month after intelligence reports warned al Qaeda was planning to shoot down a commercial airliner.
