Australia currently puts out about .4 Gigatonnes of CO2 annually and China puts out about 5 Gigatonnes.
If we cut 10% through an ETS, we will take out.04 Gigatonnes.
China plans to "reduce intensity", being a reduction in emission per unit of GDP. Their "reduction" plan will mean that in fact their CO2 output will GROW from 5 Gigatonnes to about 12 Gigatonnes.
So we will pay some $300m in tax over 20 years to reduce by .04 Gt per year whilst China INCREASES by 7 Gt per year.
That means China will ADD 175 times what we reduce!!!
Does anyone out their actually believe that our "sacrifice" will change climate in the face of those odds?
Do any voters out there understand any of those numbers?
