DJ MARKET TALK: Newcrest Earnings May Be Lower Than Expected - Brokers
0047 GMT [Dow Jones] Newcrests' (NCM.AU) fiscal 2012 earnings may be lower than expected after it reported a 16% fall in first-quarter production. Macquarie says it's likely to revise down its fiscal 2012 production and earnings forecasts by 2%-6%, but remains comfortable with its Outperform rating and A$50 target because "Newcrest represents significant upside to current prices based on its suite of tier 1 low cost assets." Credit Suisse also keeps its Outperform rating and A$50 target, but sees some risk to full-year production being achieved, as it implies a significant increase in quarterly production to be driven by higher throughput and higher grades across the operations."
