Not too sure about 88E but often they can be converted utilising BPAY which saves a bit of time and hassle. But yes there is some lag between converting and having the ordinary shares issued which presents some risk especially during volatile times such as now.
Most people who do convert will do so towards the end of the trading period which ends March 2018. Up until then the options can be sold on market at any stage just like normal shares.
