The need for power is growing by the day, the data rooms alone as they transition to GPU will inflict a heavy toll on our power needs. Dutton is the only leader in Australia who gets it. Nuclear is a vital necessity for all our major communities. Let's not forget the coal is seriously 50% of power generation in Victoria. Now data centres are not the only sector requiring more power into the future... its just one aspect..
AI search takes 10 times more power than a Google search due to the GPU processes. So an average data centre going from cpu to gpu will use 20,480 GPU's. Drawing 29 Mw . So there are 45 data centres in Victoria. 307 in Australia and 10,978 globally. Our 45 data centres in Melbourne will need 29 mW. So 1305 mW total if we don't expand. That's 15% of total electricity generation including coal and others supply for Victoria. We produce 8800 mw.. And assuming no real growth in data centres at all we are going to need seamless and continuous power to all data centres or nothing works.. and we are programmed to dismantle coal electricity in Victoria.

I wonder when the current government will stop scare mongering and actually plan for the real future, we don't need trains or tunnels or blocked freeways... we need to look ahead. Just like gas, we are running towards power issues with no actual solutions.

Victoria will not be the only city scratching their heads looking for genuine base load alternatives. Every city globally and every emerging population wanting to meet the basic needs will be looking at nuclear. There is no other real alternative. Some acted already. I think more will join...
