Unfortunately, shorting is possible on AIM as well as forward selling of shares prior to a placement being announced.
Have a look at the history for example of a Company, ticker NEW, and you will see just how bent these barstards are.
At the moment there is a circular going around trying to draw the Governments attention to it with the aim of making it illegal, but it won't happen overnight as the FCA appear to turn a blind eye to the shenanigans that go on over here...
Unfortunately, shorting is possible on AIM as well as forward...
