I would imagine supermarkets will just import more, there is already chinese garlic sold by the bag, cheaper then a single head of garlic used to cost. New Zealand has taken over Tasmanian potato supplies to McDonalds, there shut be some spare capacity in Tasie I reckon. They do not seem to be affected by drought there. The most drought affected places in NSW Vic and QLD did not grow any vegies anyway, mainly meat, wool, grains.
Grains is the market going through the roof as there is increasing demand in grains such as corn and wheat to be turned into ethanol. EU is subsidizing wheat growers to reduce their dependence on oil. I would suggest to stock the pantry with flour. Brian.
