    you are correct in your understanding. Also note, your Capital Gains will be offset against your Capital Losses first either from losses carried forward from previous years or in same financial year (for example losses on other share transactions). If your capital gain is greater than your capital loss,then you are subject to CGT. If your losses is greater than your gains then you do not have CG but a Capital loss which can be carried forward to offset against any capital gain in future.
    That is my understanding, rules may have change since. Correct me if tax rules have changed recently.
