After rereading some of their announcements I noticed how stage 2 lowered the cost/dmtu down from $4.5 to $3.89 AUD. I believe reaching economies of scale at a fast rate is one of the less talked about reasons for the sudden expansion. In the long term we can see that general Mn demand is projected to grow exponentially however management is derailing the possibility of a short- midterm decline in Mn price as well as an appreciation of the AUD. I think the choice was a good one as it's put us on a pathway to higher profit potential aswell as higher profit margins which can make a world of difference in a company, especially in regards to a miner selling a commodity.
