These Senators don't have much of an idea. Australia is a World leader in new housing construction per capita. See below. This table only goes to 2015. I can't find the one I saw recently with more up to date data, but we are still World leading.
A World leading percentage of out workforce is also employed in construction. As with any market, there are two forces at play. Supply, and demand.
At some stage, questions need to be asked as to whether our immigration intake levels are set correctly & whether we are bringing in the right skill sets.
If our immigration policies are creating more demand than the supply side can build, prices (rental & buying) go up.
