Tonight I bring you NGF.
What does this have to do with us, why is it important, what's the relevance?
Firstly we need a definition.
DEFINITION
Full form = Nerve Growth Factor
Explanation: Think of it as a peptide. Peptides
1 are Bio molecules that are built from Messenger RNA and exists in every cell of ours. Now this is secreted from cells under duress and bind to pain receptor cells. So if you do some damage like arthritis or a cut or wound, the area is under inflammation and very simply the cells secrete this NGF out. This secretion then binds to receptor cells and these are sent via the nervous system to the brain to tell you that you are in pain, and something is wrong. It's the body's fundamental warning system.
Ok I don't mean this to be a lesson in Biology...and I don't want you to fall asleep...but you need this background for the stuff I'm going to tell you....
Ok wait a sec my friend Mozz, Big Pharmas like Pfizer
3 which is one of the biggest research pharmas in the world (valued at some $211 Billion) have spent oodles on so called Anti-NGF products. Unfortunately (for them) these result in side effects. In fact some of these cause more damage than good.
How do they work? They simply circulate the drug they have come up with to blanket-block all NGF production.
One of the largest Pharmas, heavily involved in research and came up with a NGF solution, but it didn't pass Phase III. 4
HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?
Our Mechanism of action is quite different, we (well, iPPS) enters into the cell itself. We do not block the secretion of the NGF...we stop it.
I know what you are thinking. Mozz, who cares, as long as this pain stops in me bl**dy knee joint. Well you actually DO NOT WANT to block NGF's totally like our Pfizer and others competition has done in the past. Why? Well...
1) It results in AE's
2) We Need NGF'S! They play a vital role in the body. Ok how about an example to make it clear. The way I see it...imagine you have no pain...there are rare conditions like this called CIP - Congenital Insensitivity to Pain.
5 Mate, that's the best, I want me some of that...No you dont...if you accidently put your hand on a hot stove you wouldnt feel a thing....but your skin would burn right off...you'd be damaging yourself constantly. WE NEED SOME NGF.
NGF - MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE
There are so many uses for NGF that we are still discovering. It's an integral part of the nervous system for instance, there is some link between the expression of NGF and new cell growth. There are signals that incorporate NGF or at least utilise it. Mate, as I have said, I'm no Doc and I'm no geeky Science dude...but I'm learning that you can't just block this stuff by circulating some crazy NGF blocker all over our bodies!
This is the best news for us...WHY? Because we act, as Paul Rennie said at the AGM last year, "at the cellular level". We are working at the mRNA level, not just across the body. We need NGF as it "keeps our peripheral nervous system intact"....further Paul said in the meeting that it's important to downregulate it.not stop it! Finally, Paul even said that a company that has a NGF targeted solution is a "hot target for a big pharma". There is currently nothing in the world that acts like iPPS.

It's my humble speculation that this is one of the reasons we DO NOT see AE's with our naturally based Beechwood drug, Pentosan.
Paradigmers, this is our fundamental science of what we have. Why is it important...because the FDA needs to know the magic in magic juice. How it works, why it works is probably nearly as important as the fact that it DOES work.
