NHS framework agreement

The NHS has just published a framework agreement with Nanosonics which NHS Trusts can use to purchase automated probe decontamination systems (trophons) without going to tender: https://www.sbs.nhs.uk/ica-ultrasound-probe-decontamination-products

It's difficult to gauge how helpful the agreement will be for accelerating trophon sales in England, but it certainly won't hurt.

What I particularly liked about the agreement was the following text from the NHS:

"The agreement covers automated decontamination systems for use with semi-critical ultrasound probes and semi invasive/non-invasive ultrasound probes. High level disinfection is required to kill the HPV viruses. The aim of this procurement is to support and work with trusts to comply with best practice guidance on the decontamination of Ultrasound Probes from Health Protection Scotland, Health Facilities Scotland, Welsh Technical Memorandum WHTM01-06 and Irish Health executive. Guidance is currently being developed by England to support this."

My take on the last sentence of the quote is that it is a clearly implied acknowledgement (in case it was ever in doubt) that English guidance will be similar to Scottish, Welsh and Irish guidance and that in anticipation, through provision of a framework agreement with Nanosonics, the NHS (England) will in the meantime support and work with trusts who wish to acquire automated probe decontamination systems in order to comply with best practice.
