visited the tasman glacier a couple of years ago, apparently it has shrunk in length by several kilometres and in depth by several hundred metres along with almost every other non polar glacier in the world, in fact they most have disappeared in tropical areas such as Africa, irian jaya and the northern Andes, probably due to the fact colder air carries less moisture and thus less snowfall. https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/8434/retreat-of-the-tasman-glacier
