There is always new battery tech on the horizon, and they all have their own issues. I don't think we'll be getting rid of lithium ion batteries any time soon.
There's more to a battery than charge time and lifespan. If this thing is fragile or explosive it will see pretty limited commercial applications. It might even just not be scaleable (or just crazy expensive to produce).
My favourite quote I read about this new UCF tech : 'If it can charge in seconds it can discharge in seconds, I don't want a portable thunderstorm anywhere near my crotch'
