To rid secular society from the tyranny of religion we simply have to start at the top.
Western countries simply have to change their constitutions and rid them from
religious preference/favour.
Then all religions can be asked to register as a religion by signing a covenant with the state
which :
(a) compels them to give priority to the State's laws over their own laws such as Sharia or Cannon Law.
(b) renounce violence as a means of social/political protest
(c) report known members who commit crime in the name of religion
etc. etc
Religions who fail to comply should be classified as political organisations and taxed accordingly
Like Germany, the State should pay some of the minister's/priest's wages.
We simply cannot universally condemn Muslim violence when we have and have had Chistian
and Indian Hindu sectarian violence ; otherwise we can be seen as religious bigots.

Ps: I asked Tony Abbott to consider removing the Our Father at the start of Parliament and he
said that he had no intention because our culture decended from a Judaeo/Christian tradition. mm
